Moving Day

Decent practice this morning; I'm going to be registering to take my Junior Moves In The Field test in May. Yikes! I've not taken a USFSA test in over a decade so I'm more worried about simply going through the test process than how slow my choctaws get at the end.

I figured I'd jot down areas to remember from practice this morning:

Think of keeping hands down in inside rocker pattern. My shoulders tend to creep up, so focusing on hands lower keeps the shoulders in place.

Power pulls, quick turns on left side - we released this morning that as I'm tearing down the ice and look over my shoulder to see if the path is clear is preventing my check before the first set of turns. I need to stay square and then twist my chest and shoulders to the left and get my right shoulder to come with me.

Choctaws - get a rhythm going and think of the 4th position in ballet. Reach back when stepping on the inside edge and follow through with the hip and free leg like the action in a double toe. Good edges and bend, but getting a rhythm will help with keeping some speed.

Since this is out on the web, maybe I'll remember it more! Any stories about USFSA tests or junior moves out there?

Off to work, must call clients in Vienna, Austria and then host a client in the office. I've got to keep moving today on and off the ice.

And the winner is... 2010 Synchro Worlds Edition

Never found a live feed, but the archives will be on IceNetwork next week. Can't wait to see the skating, it was apparently an awesome event with enthusiastic cheering sections from Canada and the U.S.!

The Finns demonstrated their dominance of synchro again, taking the gold and silver. The bronze went to the one and only Haydenettes! After a decade of top ten finishes at worlds, they left with a shiny souvenir. They posted an appreciation of their fans on synchroboards.com and joked that they had worried about becoming the Red Sox of figure skating, going so long without a medal at worlds. While they are lovable, they've definitely never been lovable losers with their overall record.

Synchro Viewing Update

IceNetwork has announced they've reached an agreement with Universal Sports to broadcast the 2010 World Synchronized Skating Championships.... on-demand so archives will be available next week.

Still without a stream, but I found a few people to follow on twitter: @whitethenubeige and @coachkortney. Yes, 120 character tweets is all I have plus the reports from my friends. Hey Universal Sports, what is the point of getting rights to broadcast if you're not going to broadcast? On top of that, SkateBuzz and IceNetwork, why not fight for live broadcast rights instead of on-demand fluff? I'm sure there is a great reason with the ISU, but I think the best way to grow a fan base is to get out there on multiple outlets.

Here's the standings from the short program, the Haydenettes are 2nd:

1 Team Finland 1
2 Team United States of America 1

2010 Synchro World Champs & Summer Skating Camps

Due to craziness at work and remodeling our new home, I've cancelled my planned trip to go to the 2010 World Synchronized Skating Championships in Colorado Springs. What's that moaning and groaning sound you hear? It's me kicking myself, but really it's not the best time for a trip and this will let me take another skating vacation in the summer where I can actually skate instead of watch.

Two questions for anyone reading the blog:

1. Canada's SkateBuzz was going to stream the Synchro Champs but now they are only going to be putting up archives next week. Bummer. It doesn't seem that IceNetwork will be showing anything live either. Anyone know of a live stream anywhere???? I'll be reduced to watching the updated scores on isu.org without a stream...  I don't know as much about IJS scoring for senior synchro yet so that should be interesting.

2. Since I'm not going to Colorado Springs, I'm looking to go to a skating camp this summer. I know there's a big adult week in Lake Placid, but does anyone have any recommendations of adult camps they have attended? Last year, Alissa and Amber Czisny held a weekend seminar at the Detroit Skating Club. I haven't seen any info on the DSC site if that will be repeated this summer. If anyone knows about summer skating camps or want to reflect on summer skating in the past leave a comment as well!

Happy skating!
